For every species, subspecies and race of sparrow there is an illuminating discussion of the history, identification, distribution, individual characteristics, behavior and status. Each description is accompanied by beautiful photographs by Brian E. Small and others.The information in this book will give you a much better understanding of and appreciation for these birds.Wonderfully written Pre-ordered this book, and have been delighted with it so far! My only quibbles are a bit of loose binding and a lack of maps. I know I can find range maps in other places, but I LOVE having maps with the text in this type of book. Even without maps, and having only made it through the first ~65 pages so far, this book is easily my number one sparrow reference, easily surpassing Rising.
